There are many varying types of window treatments that are available to the home decorator on the market.  From draperies to blinds, it is possible to find the right dressing for any pane.  People choose to add these to their panes for many reasons.  Sometimes, they are simply for decoration to tie together a room with a perfect selection of the right color scheme.  Other times, they are necessary to block out the sun or to keep the heat from escaping in the winter.

More and more people are opting for plantation shutters and blinds as window treatments.  Plantation shutters are often made of wood or wood composites.  They feature wood slats that open and close just like the traditional blinds.  Many people prefer this type of covering for the pane because it looks much more stylish and classy than just a simple blind or drapery.  They are designed to withstand the temperature changes such as hot and cold and the different types of heat that they must endure, such as infrared heat. 

One of the biggest advantages of window treatments such as plantation shutters is that they are extremely easy to clean.  Cleaning them is no more difficult than cleaning any other piece of furniture in the home.  Simply spray them with wood cleaner or polish, and wipe them clean.  This is in stark contrast to other types of blinds that are made of materials that are much flimsier and much more difficult to clean.  As a matter of fact, other types of blinds either have to be removed to be cleaned properly or replaced often. 

There are other types of blinds to be used as window treatments such as vertical blinds in which the slats run up and down instead of across like other types of blinds.  These are preferred for larger portholes or sliding glass doors in some homes.  There are wood blinds that are similar to plantation shutters, only the slats are much smaller, and they operate like blinds in that they can be completely raised or lowered or left at half-staff.  Aluminum blinds are also popular choices.  There are pleated blinds that come in a variety of materials and made of fabric.  Many people prefer these because they lend softness to the room. 

Blinds and shutters are often preferred because they are available in a wide range of colors and styles.  In the past, draperies were the preference but in the last few years, more and more people have turned to the stylish alternatives of blinds and shutters.  Many people do not care for the look of draperies or the cleaning that is necessary.  They also see them as blocking the important light that naturally filters through. 

Window treatments are accents that not only have a functional use within the home, but they also add a lot of color, style, and beauty to the home’s interior, making them a natural addition to even minor home remodeling endeavors.  With all of the choices available, a homeowner is sure to find one that suits their needs and tickles their fancy as well.
