Tank-less Water Heaters

There have been many appliances that have been offered as energy efficient, but none are as interesting as the tank-less water heaters.  The older style of liquid warming appliances held liquid in a large vat and continually warmed that liquid.  This continual warming used a lot of energy, which was a waste because of course no one is taking a shower, a bath or doing laundry or dishes all day every day.  This was one of the things that made the older appliance much less energy efficient.

In time, there were timers available for the warmers that allowed them to be set for certain times of the day.  The most popular times would be when everyone would be returning home from work, and early in the mornings.  However, the same principle was still employed which was to continually warm the liquid over and over again after the timer started.  Again, this wasted energy, even though it was for shorter periods of time.

The newest innovations include solar water heaters and tank-less water heaters.  They supply endless amounts of hot water.  Not only is this energy conservative, but it also uses less liquid as well.  This is a double efficiency type of appliance.  The liquid is warmed immediately and stays hot for as long as it is turned on.  This means that the efficiency can be around a forty percent savings on the energy bill, and this is huge.

These warmers are installed at each tap.  This means there would be one for each area of the home.  When the hot tap is switched on, it starts the process of warming the liquid.  It continues until the tap is shut off and at that time the tank-less water heaters also shut off.  As always, there is an initial cost to installing these appliances, but they are more than worth the initial investment and will pay for themselves over time through savings on the utility bills.

They are available in models that function from propane, natural gas and of course, electricity.  What is available in the home will greatly affect the decision of which model to purchase.  The advantages to these types of tank-less water heaters would be first and foremost the savings that will be realized in the power bill.  There is also the fact that by installing these appliances, there will always be an endless supply of hot water.  This means no more cold showers and no more having to choose between running the dishwasher or the washing machine.  Another advantage would be no more leaks or overflows that can flood the room and damage the flooring. There is no vat containing gallons upon gallons of liquid with this system.

So how do they work?  Each line has a warming unit attached to it so that when the tap is turned on, the tank-less water heaters automatically begin to warm the liquid that is passing through. When a product or appliance can boast that it will save on valuable power and resources, it is definitely something worth doing some research about and purchasing as soon as possible. Going green has never been easier and it saves money, too.
