When remodeling or building a home, there are many plumbing fixtures that have to be installed.  While this may seem like an easy enough task, doing it incorrectly can end up costing a homeowner thousands of dollars in repairs.  There are many things that have to be taken into consideration when installing new showers, bathtubs, sinks, commodes, and all other types of amenities that may be needed in a home.  There are also a wide variety of styles to choose from which can make the task seem daunting.  However, knowing exactly what function or purpose new plumbing fixtures are expected to provide can narrow the search.

There are shower heads available that come in every shape, description, and style.  Some are mounted inside of the ceiling of the shower, while others have multiple jets that come out of the shower stall in many different areas in an effort to provide spray to every inch of the body from head to toe.  Some are designed to make it feel as if it is raining in the shower with the use of rain forest shower heads.  Some shower heads are detachable so that the jets of water can be concentrated on particular areas of the body such as aching shoulders or the lower back. 

There are many different types of plumbing fixtures available for the kitchen and the bathroom.  There are faucets that can be operated simply by touching them.  There are other faucets that have one handle and the hot or cold is determined by sliding the handle to the left or the right.  These faucets are available in all sorts of materials from steel to chrome and all other types of metals.  There are also faucets available that can be mounted to the wall behind the vanity that contains the sink.  This gives the room a sleeker design. 

Other plumbing fixtures would be those that are used for shower or tub installation.  There are many types of shower stalls and bathtubs on the market today.  Some can be purchased and installed directly over the existing bathtub or shower, while others require that the old ones be removed first. 

Commodes are another area that offers many different choices.  When doing a renovation, many people opt to have the commode in a bathroom placed in another area of the room.  This means that the plumbing fixtures would also have to be moved.  This involves moving pipes and lines so that they can accommodate the commode in the new area.  Commodes are available in many types of materials from porcelain to stainless steel. 

Sinks in the kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom all are available in many different materials and styles.  Some are designed to sit above the vanity or counter.  Some are made of stainless steel while others are made of anything from porcelain to marble.  As with all fittings, there is as big of an array of costs for the materials as there are materials themselves.  This is something to keep in mind when making choices for the home.
