Molding and Trim

When finishing out a room, molding and trim are often the last pieces to be placed.  This is because there are often drywall, painting, and electrical fixtures that need to be installed before attaching these pieces.  This is an attractive addition to any room, and it has been proven to bring up the overall value of the home as well upon resell.  Many people prefer the look that these additional touches add to the room. Home renovations major and minor often include paint, window treatments and millwork for the instant eye appeal they bring.

Many people love the effects of crown molding and trim around the room.  The woods that these are made of are typically one of the following:  cherry, poplar, pine, and oak.  However, the installation should be left to a professional so that the results are as pleasing as the wood itself.  The installation will involve the use of miter saws and table saws.  If the cuts are not precise, the pieces will not line up effectively and when working with expensive woods, this could be a costly mistake if someone were to attempt it as a do it yourself project.  Installation, when done correctly, will allow the pieces to blend in perfectly with the walls and ceilings, so it is important that it be done right the first time by a professional.

Another effective and aesthetically pleasing addition to a room would be chair rails.  These are usually made of some of the same woods, and they are situated about two and half feet up the wall from the floor.  They go around the entire length of the room.  Many people love them as much as they do crown molding and trim which, of course, top the room off with perfection.

There are many types of molding and trim to choose from such as tourneys, posts, appliques, corbels, door casings, and baseboards.  Each of these is designed to take the room from looking like a box to looking more like a beautiful addition to the home.

All of the molding and trim pieces can be stained to be another color, or they can be left their true color.  Many of the crown pieces are often painted white.  This is done to offset the colors of the room.  In other cases, they are left their true colors which will vary depending on which type of wood it is.  Cherry tends to be darker color while oak can be much lighter to a little darker.  Pine in its natural state often is presented as a darker wood.

Many people like to use these types of features in their home to represent other countries.  These types of additions to rooms are found all over the world and in ancient architecture.  Many of the pieces and styles that are available today have been available for hundreds of years.  It is years of tradition that have brought this beautiful wooden artwork to the homes of people today.  Many people like to make it a focal point in the room to give it a much warmer and sleek feel.  It adds beauty and value to any room.
