There are many types of lighting fixtures that are available to anyone who is building a new home or remodeling or renovating their existing home.  It is possible to install many types of illumination devices that are energy efficient.  Today there are many on the market that rely on the use of timers, motion sensors, and even solar panels to be more energy conservative and also shed more illumination than the older models.

One of the types of lighting fixtures that are found in many homes is the recessed sort.  They are sunken into the ceiling, and they give off a softer illumination.  Many times these are seen in kitchens or to highlight artwork on the wall.  It gives a room a more updated look while hiding away the actual hardware of the unit itself. 

In the past, many homes featured the use of fluorescent lighting fixtures.  These put off a very harsh glow, and they are not energy efficient.  These types of bulbs were also found in many businesses, factories, and buildings.  Slowly but surely they have been replaced with others that are more energy efficient and softer. 

Ambient or motion sensor bulbs are also used today.  These are not activated unless the presence of someone or something is detected, such as a person walking up to the front door or a car driving into the driveway or the garage.  This saves a lot of energy because they are not switched on unless there is a reason for them to be on. 

Wall sconces are often found on porches and patios.  These illuminate the area and can take advantage of the energy efficient bulbs that are on the market today.  Not only do these bulbs use less energy, but they last a lot longer, in some cases up to ten times longer than a regular light bulb. 

Ceiling fans often feature lighting fixtures in them as well.  There are usually separate switches for the fan so that only the fan can be run or only the bulb can be switched on, or both.  Many of these are now produced in energy saving models as well. 

Chandeliers are often found in many dining rooms.  They can take on many different styles and sizes from the heavy crystal models to those that are shaded with bamboo shades.  There are also some that extend down from the ceiling.  This has been a more recent development in the world of illumination.  Many home owners now want lighting fixtures that dangle down from the ceiling. 

No matter what room or whether or not the home renovation is taking place indoors or outdoors, there is a lamp for any type of situation.  It can be powered by natural gas or even be powered by solar power.  It can be for necessity or for mere decoration.  Whatever the need, there is an illumination product on the market that will fit not only the homeowners needs but save them money through energy efficiency on top of that.
