Hurricane Damage

It does not matter how long a person has lived in an area in which nature frequently unleashes its fury, a person can never be fully prepared for severe hurricane damage.  During a tropical storm, a home may fair decently, but sometimes, the devastation is simply overwhelming.  Most people will probably think that having the best insurance is the only thing to be concerned with when dealing with the aftermath.  The truth of the matter is that insurance is just one of the issues that the homeowners will have to address.

The first thing the homeowners will do is to call the utility companies.  They will need to know if there is a power outage or any downed electric poles.  Calling to have someone repair any downed lines is a safety issue.  The utilities company will be able to give a timeline as to when they will be able to restore the power.  Without it, the homeowner will face several issues.  Any refrigerated and frozen foods will ruin, the family will not have heating and air conditioning, and navigating through a dark house can be dangerous.  Having someone come out and check for possible gas leaks is another important step.  If the homeowner really feels that there is a gas leak, the utility company will send someone out as soon as possible to avoid more potential damage.  With severe hurricane damage, getting these issues handled is of the highest priority.

Phone calls will need to happen to find a reputable general contractor that can handle the work the hurricane damage has caused.   Another phone call will be for a professional that can clean up debris.  Fallen limbs or trees are a hazard.  Fallen limbs and trees also cause a great deal of difficulty for the construction workers to get to the home with their equipment.  With the high winds that a huge storm can bring, there will more than likely be a ton of debris left in the yard.  Limbs will be on the roof, in the back yard, and obstructing the driveway and sidewalks.  Before home repairs can take place, there must be a clear yard so that the professional contractor crew can get in and begin repairs.  Hiring someone to get rid of all the fallen trees and branches is a must when faced with the task of moving on after severe hurricane damage.

With all of the intense high-speed winds that come with a major storm, the roof is very vulnerable.  Flying debris, falling trees, and severe weather will all take a toll on the roof.  If a homeowner finds that any of the shingles have damage, they need to call a roofer to come and make the necessary repairs right away.  Ignoring this issue could seriously harm the house and lead to further trouble.

A contractor needs to be called when there will be extensive home renovations being made due to hurricane damage.  They can help evaluate the extent of work that needs to be done.  After they are done with the major repairs to the home, the cosmetic renovations can take place to make the home look presentable again.
