While there are people out there who can tackle the job of replacing or repairing their own roof, those people are fairly few and far between. Unless someone has had extensive experience with this, even if he is an avid do-it-yourselfer, this is probably one of the jobs he would want to leave to the professionals.  Unlike some other projects, if this job is shoddily done, there is an awful lot of damage that can occur, both to his belongings and to the house itself.  Drips and leaking can cause problems no matter the season, and the last thing he needs is water or ice damage after already trying to tackle the job himself. Better than having to deal with this, having the name of one of the roofing companies that he can trust can leave him in a much better position, both financially and emotionally.  He will not have to worry about any memorabilia or important things being damaged due to his failure with the project.

If someone wants to start researching roofing companies, he can get ahead of the game and be ready in the case of disaster.  Doing this now instead of waiting until after something happens offers more than just the benefit of the peace of mind from knowing he has a reputable company ready to work with.  If he evaluates any potential disrepair now, he has the benefit of being able to get the work done on his schedule rather than possibly having to wait with others ahead of him if waits until after a big storm when a lot of neighbors have damage as well.
